How to update the main version of CADENAS products |
Backup |
Before updating, you should make a comprehensive data backup of the existing installation to ensure that you have an executable version in case something goes wrong.
Important Note | Ideally, the data backup should be created for the entire client. If this is not desired, at least the “sitesetup” and "setup" folders should be backed up. In the case of a VM, a snapshot or backup of the client should be saved from the current status. In addition, the configuration and system information should be retrieved and saved in the previous version using the F7 button, as this contains all the necessary information on connections and storage locations. With F7 you also get your CADENAS Variables $CADENAS_SETUP and $CADENAS_SITESETUP including the path where to find this directories. Your current license file can be found in $CADENAS_SITESETUP\lic\keys. |
Update License server |
Once the data backup has been successfully created and saved, the previous version of the license server can be removed via the Windows Control Panel. Once the previous version has been completely removed, the latest version can be installed. This requires the file downloaded from PARTupdate with the installation files.
If the license server is installed on a new VM or a new computer, the firewall must be adjusted (enable port 2004 by default) and the Hardware exchange form for a new license must be completed. In addition, the connection settings must be adjusted on all clients. If the server remains on the same hardware, the license file can continue to be used. This simply needs to be stored again; instructions can be found here: Guide: How to Deposit a License File (License Server).
Detailed information on the subject of license server installation can be found in the Installation manual in Chapter 3.9
Update Client |
Update to a new major version ( e.g. 11.x to 12.x ) |
01. After the data backup, the version that is no longer required can be uninstalled via the Windows Control Panel. The downloaded *.msi file can then be executed. Note: Unzip the ZIP files beforehand.
02. Replace the previously saved “sitesetup” folder if individual customizations were saved there. Note: Individual settings may not be compatible.
03. The license file must then be stored again. You can find instructions on how to do this here:
Guide: How to deposit a Licence File (Single Workstation)
04. Download the “CADENAS additional data” with the thread definitions in PARTadmin.
5-7 Only for eCATALOGsolutions:
05. Log in to PARTproject with the SVN login data. If no SVN account exists yet, it can be requested via your contact person at CADENAS or the customer portal.
06. Activate the desired options in the PARTproject settings. “Activate QA” is required for the catalog update, ‘Update index automatically on change’ is required to make the catalog visible in PARTdataManager.
07. Right-click on the directory in the project selection and download the catalogs via version management.
Update within the main version ( e.g. 12.4 to 12.9 ) |
01. In addition to the data backup, the setup and sitesetup folders should also be backed up. As executing the *.msi file causes the new version to be “installed over” it, folders will be overwritten. This will happen to setup where no individual settings should be. A backup of "sitesetup" is for security reasons.
02. After the data backup, the *.msi file can be executed. Note: Unpack ZIP files beforehand.
03. The setup and sitesetup folders can be exchanged with those from the data backup after installation.
